How deep do I need to bury the past to make it stay down?
Twice in two months, a witch named Abigail has used my dark history to try to destroy me. For weeks, my team has hunted her, but she’s as skilled as evading us as I am at stuffing my nightmares where I can’t see them.
Except she’s not evading us anymore. Now she’s coming straight for us, and I have to be ready. For every blow she strikes, I need to strike back—even if it means turning my feet in a direction I haven’t walked in almost nine hundred years.
Emrick and my chosen family stand with me, but I fear they’ll get caught in the crossfire. Especially as secrets are revealed and the truth unravels in ways that make my world tremble.
Abigail thinks she can use my past to draw blood. I’ll make her regret every drop.

I loved reading Shadow of the Sorceress as Miss Walsh doesn't disappoint her readers. She keeps them on the edge of their seats while being pulled into the story till the very end.
As Kat and her team continue to hunt down the Evil Doers someone from her past resurfaces, Somebody who Kat thought to be dead... Alodie or Abigail as she is known in the present time.
I loved how Gavin was rescued in book 3 and Kat took him in. Gavin is another Sorcerer meaning someone in his family lines was from the same village that Kat was from... Palonia.
The characters in Shadow of the Sorceress are amazing and I loved them specially Adrian who is a very old Vampire. Emerick who is a Shepherd Herder or Grim Reaper as Kat and Poppy call him. Emrick works with Death and he escorts the fallen souls from the living world to he afterlife.
So, if you love Magical Witches, Vampires, Amazing battles then this book is for you.
Danger draws close as Kat, Emrick, and fam are directly targeted by the mysterious Abigail. As new powers are unveiled in the villain, new dangers rise, striking closer and closer to Kat’s home and heart.
This is deep in a series, so I want to keep the synopsis/recap as brief as possible BECAUSE being this deep in a series means the proverbial poo has hitteth the fan, and I spent a few long minutes staring at the ceiling after reading parts of this book.
If you’re an urban fantasy fan and love a strong, dynamic female lead, Kat Palon is for you. If you like twisty turns and a layered story where the reveals deliciously unfold, The Immortal Sorceress is for you.
Walsh is crushing it with this series, giving just the right amount of detail and backstory in the previous entries to make this book LAND. She masterfully captures grief, both new and ancient, in a manner that any reader can connect with and writes the intricacies of a Found Family with a deft, lovely hand.
One of the true joys of this series has been watching the frenemy-ship between Kat and Barrett evolve, and in this book … THIS BOOK. To say more would be spoiler central, so I won’t, other than PLEASE don’t sleep on these books!
In this exciting sequel there are a lot of dramatic developments. We discover the identity of the fire magician who regains his memory, we also find out the identity of Abigail. We get more details of Kat’s backstory and eventually Kat learns how Abigail has been able to spy on her. Murisa and Poppy are amazing, discovering spells to help the team. There is also some heartbreaking news which makes it difficult to carry on fighting. Kat is determined to protect Emrick who is in danger of losing his memories if he gets involved. And she senses there is another enemy who wants to harm her. I can’t wait to see how the story continues. Let’s hope the series carries on until all is revealed.
Gosh are these characters so cool! I mean, we have a snarky guy who loathes magic and magic users, we have a sorcerer who doesn't want to be one, we have a retired vampire, we have a sassy necromancer, we have a cat brought to life, yeah, REALLY cool when you add that to the awesomeness that is Kat! And then there's Emrick.... OH! MY! WORD! EMRICK!!! A character I literally salivate over! I character that can take me ANYWHERE the heck he wants! But let me put my tongue back in my mouth and try to capture my... ahem...OTHER emotional turmoil that is this read. Yep, Ms Walsh didn't let up for a single moment, she kept pounding away at my very essence, drawing it out and releasing it with a twang! Oh not in a bad way, rather in a way that had my emotions screaming in overdrive from the sheer drama and intensity of this book! And geez, WAS it tense! And heck, let's face it, for me personally, if a book doesn't elicit strong emotions in me, it fails to capture me. I need to get lost in the book, which I did. I need to enjoy the world the author crafts, which I did. I need to be able to laugh, to weep, to cringe, which I did. I NEED to feel it all, the despair, the joy, the drama, the warmth that infuses my very being and let me make myself clear, I FREAKING FELT IT ALL!
So much has occurred for Kat, TO Kat and although she finally has her mojo back, she's not the at the same powerful strength she was. Her previous despondency has made her a target and the attacks on her keep coming. But from whom is the question. Well, THAT question is answered in a explosive turn of events! Trying to decipher the who, Kat and the gang are still on the back foot. All they have is a name, Abigail and Abigail is ALWAYS a few steps ahead and it's becoming more dire with each passing day, to find her, apprehend her, put a stop to her. The newfound friendship from Poppy and Murisa is a laugh a minute wrapped up in concern. Yep, Poppy DOES have a mouth on her, but her support of Kat is 100% awesome. I seriously love her! Muroppy, as Kat coined them are unbelievable together, what they can do is spectacular! Geez, am I glad they're in Kat's camp.
Kat has got her mojo back in full swing but there is discontent amongst the supernaturals, they see Kat as a threat, as a destroyer and not a guardian. Her very reputation is at risk, where she should be able to rely on the supernatural world to aid her in ridding the world of a dangerous witch, they see her as a foe, not a saviour. Talk about diminishing resources! Then we have Barret, I love the love/hate relationship between Kat and Barrett! I fell in love with Barret's stoic disdainful attitude the first time I met him. What I love is that it's so credible, spun it in such a way that allows me, the reader, to process what he's processing, to understand why. The relationship, if one can call it that, between Emrick and Kat had me shouting "nooooo!!!! Not fair!!!!" I'm still deciding if I will forgive Krista for that bombshell...
Emrick is killing me!!!! I NEED him to be able to be with Kat! He is the most beautiful character I've come across in a long time. I love the relationship between Kat and him, the captivating description, both warmed and shattered my heart! The love they feel is soooo gorgeous, I feel it in my bones! I felt EVERY SINGLE EMOTIONS! If I don't get emotional, whether to weep or laugh or that warm feeling in my tummy, I know I'm reading a dud, and in this book ALL the emotions are top notch in my opinion! The one emotion I'm having a hard time with is the devastation I felt when...when...geez, I can't tell you but heck do you need to read it to find out! These perfectly expanded characters, this perfect pacing, this perfect world (ok, maybe NOT so perfect!) What IS perfect is this book, what IS perfect is this series!
This time Kat goes head-to-head with Abigail, as the witch comes for her – and her found family – directly. Always a step behind, Kat and her friends struggle to get ahead of this witch with a vendetta, once they don’t even understand – yet.
Kat is an engaging character who, like most of us, struggles with the ghosts of her past, while trying to protect her family in the present. Knowing what is the right course of action in the face of impossible choices are themes we can all relate to. The supporting characters are nicely fleshed out, which makes the highs, and lows, feel so real. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
